These cookies are popular in both Mexico and New Mexico.

Ingredients

*6 C. flour
*3 tsp. baking powder
*1 tsp. salt
*1 lb. softened butter
*1 3/4 C. white granulated sugar
*2 tsp. anise seeds
*2 eggs
*1/2 C. brandy
*1 tsp. ground cinnamon

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Sift flour with baking powder and salt.  Cream butter with 1 1/2 cups sugar and anise seeds using a mixer set on medium speed.  Beat eggs until light and fluffy. Add to creamed mixture.  Add flour and brandy, then mix until well blended.  Dough should be stiff.  If not, add more flour until it is.  Knead dough and roll out to be about 1/2-inch thick. Cut with cookie cutters in shape of your choice.  Mix together remaining 1/4 C. sugar and cinnamon.  Use to dust top of each cookie.  Place on baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes or until lightly browned.
