This turkey has a super unique flavor!
Ingredients
*one 8-10 lb. turkey *1 med. red onion *4 garlic cloves *3/4 C. vegetable oil *2 C. powdered cocoa *1 tsp. ground cinnamon *1/4 tsp. anise seeds
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Thaw turkey, remove neck and giblets from cavities, then wash cavities thoroughly. Remove skin from onion and chop into 1/4-inch pieces. Peel and mince garlic. Stir onion and garlic into 1/4 cup vegetable oil and, using a paper towel, rub inside of turkey cavity with garlic and onion mixture. Leave all garlic and onion pieces inside the cavity. Mix together cocoa, cinnamon, and anise into the remaining 1/2 cup vegetable oil. Use this to baste turkey. Place turkey in the oven and baste every 15 minutes for 3 hours. Remove turkey and let rest for 30 minutes before serving.
